For those of us who are working from home, How are you spending your time? Without your commute to and from work and the opportunity to get up later in the morning, what does the available time allow you to do that you didn't have time to do last week? Maybe this is a good time to start a journal, meditate, relax your mind before and after work or just begin to carve out time to spend with your own thoughts? There are stories of my life that I want to share. I'm using my time to re-arrange my plans for writing a memoir. How ARE you using your time?
You're not alone, even if you're staying home during this time. The evening news is full of information that builds anxiety. Here's the good news! We know how to prevent spreading the virus...by stepping up your hygiene and distancing and limiting your interactions with others to prevent the corona virus from spreading, Here are the challenges: Being home from work, arranging daycare for kids and elderly relatives, finding scarce supplies for your home, and whatever else you need to do without much warning. The combination of the news reports and getting through this challenging time, amps up the anxiety to high levels. So, what do you do? First, protect yourself and your family - Follow the CDC steps for prevention. Second, reduce your anxiety - Connect with friends to maintain outside contact.
--Keep informed using a headline news aggregrate like Flipboard instead of watching every news broadcast update. You know how to protect yourself so watching the news doesn't help you. --Focus your inner chatter on what you're going to do after the virus is under control. --Realize that fear and anxiety is your imaginations version of the worst possible scenario and is NOT a prediction of future events. Focus on your after virus plans to replace thoughts of fear and feelings of anxiety. Third, find activities to do at home as a family - to reduce bordom and keep everyone engaged. Forth, help others, consider those in your community who may be at home alone - text, video chat or call them weekly to prevent isolation If you have tips that reduce anxiety, please share them in the comments below.
